Call for Predoctoral Trainees

The AIPrN T32 program is now receiving applications for prospective trainees to be appointed to its 4 predoctoral slots. The deadline for applications is October 31st. To be eligible, trainees must be:

  1. A U.S. citizen, non-citizen U.S. national, or those lawfully admitted for permanent residence.

  2. Enrolled in a PhD program in nutrition, a related biomedical field, computer science, or information science at Cornell.

Trainees would have ideally completed 1-3 years of their doctoral program with a preference for those having completed their A-exam. However, for the first round of appointments, we will consider all applications on a case-by-case basis. The T32 program requires dual mentorship - trainees will need to choose one mentor from the nutrition or related biomedical fields category and a second one from the computer and information science field listed on this page. Similarly, trainees will choose nutrition or a related biomedical field as their major and computer or information science as the minor or vice versa. Trainees will be expected to focus on questions related to AI and precision nutrition for their doctoral dissertation and participate in a capstone course on this topic.

Selected predoctoral candidates will be paid a 12-month stipend consistent with NIH and the graduate school guidelines. Predoctoral trainees also may apply for additional funds from the Graduate School for travel to conduct research ($2,000) or present at professional conferences ($675), as well as up to $200 to support registration for online conferences. There may also be pilot funds available for research projects through CPNH.

To apply, please submit:

  1. NIH Biosketch

  2. Research Plan (maximum 1.5 pages excluding references) that focuses on a precision nutrition problem with a preference for relevance to maternal and child health that presents an AI component. Although there are no prescriptive guidelines for the research plan, it must reflect the goals of multidisciplinary collaboration and build experience in AI or ML at some scale.

  3. Multi-Trainer Mentorship Plan (approximately 0.5 pages) that names and describes the roles of two T32 faculty trainers who will serve as research mentors and will be co-chairs of the dissertation committee. The co-chairs must be chosen from the list of faculty T32 trainers on this web site and should come from different concentrations (for example, one mentor is from computer information science, the other mentor is from nutritional science). The role of each trainer should be described in the context of the research plan.

  4. Mentorship Management Plan (approximately 0.5 pages) that includes a research funding plan, publication authorship plan, and conflict management plan.

  5. Statement on Career Objectives and Path After Degree Completion (~ 1 paragraph).

  6. Timeline for Training Completion (~1 paragraph).

  7. A letter of support from each of the two proposed mentors. These can be directly mailed to precision-nutr@cornell.edu.
